Pre-Apprenticeship Programs
YOUR ORGANIZATION CAN GET GREAT CARPENTRY TRAINING TOO
The JSC partners with community organizations to offer pre-apprenticeship workforce development programs and high school technical career and technical education. The focus of these programs is to provide fundamental carpentry skills training to individuals who will soon be entering the workforce.
Our Pre-Apprenticeship Programs are customized to meet the specific needs of our partner organizations. Most often, the training includes topics such as:
- Measuring and related Mathematics
- Shop Safety
- Hand Tools
- Hand Power Tools
- Stationary Power Tools
- Materials and Fasteners
- Layout and Construction Techniques
Some of our partner organizations are local high schools who seek to supplement their career and technical education with intensive carpentry instruction at JSC. In these cases, high school students will come to JSC for several weeks during the school year to receive carpentry instruction. Many partner organizations ask us to design programs to train and prepare their participants for entry into the JSC Apprenticeship Program. A partial list of our partners include:
- YWCA Washington Area Women In the Trades
- DC Department Of Employment Services
- District of Columbia Public Schools
- Booker T. Washington Public Charter School for the Technical Arts
- The Alexandria Sea Port Foundation
- Young America Works Public Charter School
- LAYC Youth Build Public Charter School
- Prince Georges County Youth Employment Services
